Gavin Brown is an Englishman whose eponymous gallery, Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, opened in New York’s SoHo in 1994. In 1999 he opened Passerby, a bar located next to the gallery’s then location in the Meatpacking District. Famed for – among other things – its disco-style dancefloor (created by artist Piotr Uklanski), Passerby closed in 2008. Currently located in the West Village, the gallery represents a range of international artists, including Sturtevant, Rob Pruitt, Elizabeth Peyton, Kerstin Brätsch, Alex Katz, Rirkrit Tiravanija…
