The Austrian artist has been awarded the 2016 Roswitha Haftmann Prize. Awarded every year by the eponymous Foundation in Zurich, the prize is Europe’s best endowed, offering CHF 150,000 (approx. £96,000) to an artist who has made a significant contribution to the field of visual arts. Previous winners include Lawrence Weiner, Pierre Huygues, Harun Farocki and Mona Hatoum. Zobernig has served as a professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna since 2000 and shows in the Austrian pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale. The award ceremony will take place on 12 May 2016 in the Kunsthaus Zürich.
