According to reporting by the Polish news platform Onet, the investigation came after a complaint alleging misconduct signed by 37 employees was made to the City Hall.
\n\n\n\n
Also on 16 May, Budak issued a statement of his own: ‘I am convinced that the decision to dismiss me from the position of Director of MOCAK has no legal basis and was made under time pressure. I am considering appealing the dismissal decision, while remaining open to dialogue with the Mayor’.
\n\n\n\n
The artist and curator Robert Knoke has released a statement appealing for a reconsideration of his dismissal and urging for reconciliation ‘through a mediator’, while artist Paulina Ołowska launched a petition also calling for a reconsideration of the decision. According to the petition, artists Monika Drożyńska, Wilhelm Sasnal, Katarzyna Krakowiak-Bałka and Gabrielle Goliath have currently resigned their participation in MOCAK’s 2026–27 programme in solidarity with Budak.
\n","path":"/adam-budak-dismissed-as-director-of-mocak-amid-controversy/","format":"standard","date":"18 May 2026","rawDate":"2026-05-18T12:48:09.000Z","branch":null,"author":{"name":"ArtReview","path":"/author/artreview/"},"category":{"name":"News","path":"/category/news/"},"featured_media":{"source_url":"https://backend.artreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/download.jpeg","caption":"","alt_text":"Adam Budak standing outside MOCAK","media_details":{"width":800,"height":899,"sizes":{"thumbnail":{"source_url":"https://backend.artreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/download-300x337.jpeg","width":300,"height":337},"medium":{"source_url":"https://backend.artreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/download-600x674.jpeg","width":600,"height":674},"large":null,"wordpress_1536x1536":null,"wordpress_2048x2048":null}}},"acf":{"article_artist":null,"article_video":null,"article_audio":null,"article_collaboration":"","article_custom_html_snippet":"","article_featured_title":"","article_featured_description":"","article_highlight":false,"article_custom_link_url":"","hero_image":null,"seo_title":"News: Adam Budak dismissed as director of MOCAK amid controversy","seo_description":"The mayor of Krakow dismissed Adam Budak from his role as director of MOCAK on 11 May after an investigation into Budak's behaviour.
