The winners of the 2026–27 Casa Wabi x ArtReview residency prize have been announced.
\n\n\n\nMaja Malou Lyse & Esben Weile Kjær (b.1993/1992, Denmark), Li TzuMei (b.1982, Taiwan) and Fernanda Galvão (b.1994, Brazil) were selected from a pool of over 900 applications received from around the world. The three artists and duo will stay at Casa Wabi, an artist residency and community arts centre founded by the artist Bosco Sodi in 2014 in Oaxaca, Mexico.
\n\n\n\nDanish artists Maja Malou Lyse & Esben Weile Kjær produce public-facing works that transform shared spaces into sites of spectacle, bringing audiences together through collective experiences that range from monumental billboards to large-scale fireworks performances. The duo also each has their individual practice, with Lyse’s work emphasising the relationship between bodies, desire, and image culture and Kjær’s addressing contemporary notions of identity, community, and desire.
\n\n\n\nLi TzuMei is a Taiwan-based sound artist and researcher. Her practice investigates feminist listening and embodied epistemology across works spanning sound design, traditional folk music and site-specific performance. Through a method which she calls ‘listening that suspends the signified’, she reconfigures sound as a site where bodily knowledge and decolonial consciousness emerge.
\n\n\n\nFernanda Galvão is a Brazilian artist based in Paris. Her practice, which spans painting, installation and video, explores the points of convergence between landscape, anatomy and living matter. Drawing equally from biology and science fiction, she develops a biomorphic vocabulary through which she shapes speculative environments.
