Courtesy the artist</figcaption></figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Biennale Jogja Foundation, that has run the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://artreview.com/biennale-jogja-18-review-occasional-moments-of-brilliance/\" target=\"_blank\">Biennale Jogja</a> for 16 years, has announced that it is ceasing operations. </p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2011, the foundation has organised 8 editions of the Biennale Jogja, of the Khtaulistiwa Symposium and of Asana Bina Seni, a development programme for artists and curators. </p>\n\n\n\n<p>‘Reflecting on the political situation in Indonesia today, we have come to the conclusion that we need to REST’, representatives of the foundation said in a statement. ‘Under a political regime that has failed to recognize people’s cultures as the foundation of cultural identity – amid chaotic economic and political policies, increasing censorship, and violence against activists and protesters – we feel an urgency to pause.
