Pyotr Pavlensky, the Russian performance artist who nailed his scrotum to the cobbles of Moscow's Red Square in protest at Russia's descent into a 'police state', has been charged with hooliganism, The Guardian reports.

The charge, the same as that applied to Pussy Riot, carries a potential five-year prison sentence.
