Alex Colville, 1920-2013

The funeral of celebrated Canadian artist Alex Colville, who died on 16 July, age 92, is being held today at Manning Memorial Chapel at Acadia University, in the small Nova Scotia town of Wolfville. The artist, whose works included paintings, engravings and murals, took his subjects from scenes of everyday, and was associated with a Magic Realist style. In 2010 His painting Man on Verandah (1953), sold for C$1,287,000 (US$1,263,000), at that time the highest price paid at auction for a living Canadian artist.
