As curator and executive director of the Native-led nonprofit Forge Project, Hopkins steers the organisation’s efforts to ‘cultivate and advance Indigenous leadership in arts and culture’. The project hosts public programmes including artist talks and site tours on a campus situated on the unceded homelands of the Muh-he-con-ne-ok in the Mahicannituck (Hudson River) Valley. At a time when many nonprofits (including partners such as Bard) are facing federal funding cuts, Forge Project has held the course, due in part to its organisational restructure last year, which prioritises a model of Indigenous self-determination, relying on private donations and collaborative partnerships. It continues to administer its annual Forge Project fellowships, each comprising a three-week residency and $25,000 cash award, which have supported the practices of artists like Sky Hopinka, Catherine Blackburn and Kite. Meanwhile, Impossible Music, a survey of conceptual and experimental music that Hopkins curated with her husband, Diné composer and artist Raven Chacon, continues to travel.
