This year’s Documenta was, as all those who made a visit found, a vast project, a huge melting pot of complex ideas. With an ability to cut through specialist languages and amorphous clouds of thought, and to speak with fluency and rigour about a broad range of projects, Chus Martínez emerged as an important force on the curatorial team of this influential exhibition.
Her official title, in Documentaspeak, is that of head of department and member of core agent group, yet during this period she maintained her position as associate curator at MACBA, Barcelona, where she was chief curator from 2008 to 2010. Martínez has also held directorial positions at Frankfurter Kunstverein and Sala Rekalde, Bilbao. It appears the world is at her curatorial feet.
