‘We are firm believers that dancers are thinkers of the body,’ the three-strong dance collective told The New York Times, and as such they reject the idea of separate dance traditions or indeed any division between dance, art, film and fashion on the basis that ideas are nonbinary. Having met at university and on the Parisian queer club scene, (LA)HORDE now find themselves directors of the Ballet National de Marseille (since 2019) and feted: by the 20,000 who attended their climate-change-tackling work Room With a View at the Old Port of Marseille in July 2023 and by the art establishment too, having been part of exhibitions at Milan’s Hangar Bicocca and Paris’s Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo. Their US debut, at The Bass, Miami, closed in April. Age of Content (2023), a choreographed work dealing with the effect of digital technology on the body (influences cited: a Grand Theft Auto videogame character, TikTok dance mashups and Only Fans), toured London, Paris, New York and Seoul; We Should Have Never Walked on the Moon, their recent London Southbank Centre takeover, was a take on the age of internet culture and short attention spans.
