Opened in 1968, the Paula Cooper Gallery was the first in New York’s SoHo district, and as it celebrates its 40th anniversary, it boasts a stellar roster of postwar and contemporary artists, such as Carl Andre, Sophie Calle, Dan Flavin, Hans Haake, Donald Judd and Yayoi Kusama, with a particular focus on American minimalism and conceptualism. The New York Times describes her as ‘the doyenne of downtown dealers’, and few people would disagree.
