Ilaria Maria Sala is a writer, journalist, and ceramicist from Bologna, now based in Hong Kong. She has spent all her adult life in Asia, in Beijing, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong, with long detours in Senegal and Nepal. She speaks about ten languages, at varying levels of fluency, and is the author of five books in Italian. Her work has appeared in English and Italian, on The Guardian, The New York Times, The Art Newspaper, Internazionale and Il Post, and many others. She writes most often about arts, religion, botany, food and politics, mixing all of those together as much as possible.
