Diane Lima will curate the Panorama da Arte Brasileira in September 2026, the biennial survey of Brazilian art organised by the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art since 1969.
Lima was recently announced as the curator of the Brazilian Pavilion at the next Venice Biennale and was a part of the curatorial team of the 35th São Paulo Biennial in 2023. Previous exhibition credits include Paulo Nazareth’s 2024 solo show at at Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2024) and O rio é uma serpente [The River is a Serpent], for the 3rd Frestas Triennial of Arts, SESC São Paulo (2020–2021).
Aimed at providing an overview of artmaking in the country, Lima has given the 39th edition of Panorama the title Depois que tudo foi dito (After It’s All Said). The name is inspired by a quote from Black feminist thinker Denise Ferreira da Silva: ‘whether we might cultivate a sensibility that presumes and anticipates what lies beyond all that has been said and done about colonial and racial violence, and the role they continue to play in sustaining global capital.’
The first editions of the Panorama contributed directly to the formation of MAM’s contemporary art collection. This edition will see the show return to MAM, which has been undergoing refurbishment since 2024.
