Dr. Namhee Park has been appointed the new director of the Nam June Paik Art Center. Having received her PhD in art studies at Hongik University, where she currently serves as a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Visual Communication, Park has been actively involved in South Korea’s art scene for many years. In 2022, she curated the 3rd Jeju Biennale, and before that she was the head of exhibitions at the Asia Culture Center’s ACT Festival (2018–19), the director of the education department at Gwangju’s ACC Asia Culture Institute (2016–20) and adjunct professor at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology (1998–2005).

Park’s vision for the the Nam June Paik Art Center is to make a ‘hyper connected social platform and public forum’ that would advance research on art and technology, a ‘heritage community’ for Paik’s legacy as well as a propagator of world peace that was embodied in the artistic spirits of Paik. ‘At a time when the value of world peace is required more than ever,’ said Park in a statement, ‘I look forward to presenting an open and inclusive institution, just as Nam June Paik had done in perceiving the future of humanity and technology with warm eyes and presenting diverse works.’ Park, who was selected through an open call, took on her role on 26 September.
