Biennale of Sydney announces Jo-Anne Birnie Danzker as new director and CEO

Jo-Anne Birnie Danzker has been named the new CEO and director of Australia’s Biennale of Sydney, Artnews reports. Formerly the director of the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, Birnie Danzker will supervise the opening of the Biennale in 2018, while the event will be curated by Mami Kataoka (chief curator of the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo).

On her appointment as the new director, Birnie Danzker has said in a statement: ‘For nearly half a century, the Biennale has been a meeting place and a platform for exceptional artists and curators from Australia and around the globe to share their knowledge… I am honored to join the Biennale team and return to Sydney’.
