Thirty Los Angeles-based artists have been chosen to take part in the fifth edition of Hammer Museum’s biennial exhibition titled Made in L.A. 2020: a version. The artists will present work from 7 June through 30 August at Hammer in Los Angeles and the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. There will also be special off-site projects across LA by artists Larry Johnson, Kahlil Joseph and multimedia platform SON.
The exhibition has been organised by independent curators Myriam Ben Salah and Lauren Mackler with Ikechukwu Onyewuenyi from Hammer. Speaking on the process to realise the exhibition, Hammer’s director Ann Philbin said, ‘Through nearly 300 hundred studio visits, Myriam, Lauren, and Ike have assembled a group of artists who delve into fascinating and often overlooked histories, subcultures, and communities of L.A. Once again, the exhibition has illustrated the strength and vision of the here and now of contemporary art in our city’.
