Beijing’s M Woods Art Museum plans to open second space

M Woods Art Museum has announced that it will open a second space in Beijing’s Longfusi Development, Dongcheng district, in August this year, The Art Newspaper reports. The new four-storey venue, which measures more than 3,500 square metres, has been renovated by architect Shuhei Aoyama and B.L.U.E. Studio. Lin Han, a co-founder of M Woods has said in a statement: “The second venue is located in a central area of Beijing which has a profound history…It has been a dream of ours to have another space in Beijing. After years of preparation and negotiation with multiple parties, we finally made it a reality. I believe M Woods Art community will bring urgently needed energy and creativity into this historical neighbourhood.”

The museum, which was founded by collectors Lin Han, Wanwan Lei, and Michael Xufu Huang in 2014, includes in its collection the works of Lucas Arruda, Kader Attia, Darja Bajagić, George Condo, Tracey Emin, Gao Yu, Han Bing, Sako Kojima, Qiu Jiongjiong, Sterling Ruby, Studio Mumbai, Wolfgang Tillmans, Chiu Ya Tsai, James Turrell, Danh Võ, Xu Zhen, Yan Xing, Yang Bodu, Yang Fudong, Yu Honglei, and Zheng Guogu.

Exhibitions of work by David Hockney and Austin Lee are expected to inaugurate the opening of the museum.
