French government official Serge Lasvignes (61) has been nominated as the next president of the Centre Pompidou, Le Figaro has reported, a surprise choice because of Lasvignes’ lack of previous experience in running a cultural institution and low profile in the artworld.
Lasvignes replaces Alain Seban, who himself had limited cultural experience when appointed to the position but who has overseen an increase in visitor numbers and significant expansion programme at the Pompidou during his tenure.
