Sally Tallant, currently director of the Liverpool Biennial, has been appointed director of the Queens Museum in New York. Talent will take up the role in Spring 2019, after the controversial departure of former director Laura Raicovich earlier this year, following political differences with the museum’s board. Talent will oversee the exhibition programme as well as the museum’s extensive educational programming and community-led projects, ranging from multilingual outreach and educational opportunities for adult immigrants.
Since joining the Liverpool Biennial in 2011, Tallant has overseen for editions of the biennial, including Beautiful World, Where Are You? which closed this October. Prior to her role at the Liverpool Biennial, Tallant served as a curator at the Hayward gallery in London (1999–2001) and as head of programmes at The Serpentine Gallery (2001–2011). Commenting on Tallant’s appointment, Queens Museum’s board chairman Mark J. Coleman, said her ‘unique combination of local and global experience in the arts world made her the superlative choice for leading the Queens Museum, and serving the borough’s distinctively international constituency’.
