On Monday, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP), Paris, announced the departure of its director Simon Baker. Though the institution did not provide any reason for the move, Le Monde reported on Thursday that Baker was fired.
Simon Baker joined the MEP in 2018 following his role as senior curator of international art (photography) at the Tate in London. According to Le Monde, he was the subject of an internal investigation in 2024 for ‘psychological harassment’. The investigation did not lead to any sanctions.
Caroline Miller, the MEP’s executive director, told Le Monde that the board of directors had made the decision unanimously. ‘After seven years, there was a desire to renew the management style’, she said.
Miller will serve as acting director until a replacement is found for Baker.
