Every artist hopes their solo show at an institution will be remembered, but Sung Tieu has taken steps to ensure her legacy. As part of 1992, 2025, which closed in May at KW Institute, Berlin, Tieu installed a four page document detailing a deal in which the work would be sold to fund a five-year board membership for a new member nominated by the artist.
With Declaration of Donation (2025) now sold, Tieu has appointed academic and curator Mi You to an executive board that also oversees the Berlin Biennale. The curator will join the likes of collectors Julia Stoschek and Karen Boros, as well as longtime art world luminaries including curator Klaus Biesenbach and artist Olafur Eliasson.
In September, Haegue Yang was appointed the new chair of KW.
Tieu, who was born in Vietnam, but has lived in Germany since childhood, will represent Germany at the Venice Biennale next year.
