Adriano Pedrosa has been appointed as artistic director for the next edition of Venice Biennale, scheduled to open in 2024. Pedrosa is currently the director of Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), where his exhibition programme (notably the Histórias series) and diversification of the institution’s staff and art offerings led to his bump-up from 96 to 59 on ArtReview’s Power 100 list this year. No stranger to the biennale circuit: Pedrosa has also cocurated the 24th Bienal de São Paulo (1998); the 27th Bienal de São Paulo (2006); was the artist director of 2nd Trienal de San Juan (2009); curated the 31st Panorama da Arte Brasileira, Mamõyaguara opá mamõ pupé (2009); cocurated the 12th Istanbul Biennial; and curated the São Paulo pavilion at the 9th Shanghai Biennale (2012). He has also been named as a 2023 recipient of the Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence, presented by New York’s Bard College.
The 60th Venice Biennale will be held from 20 April – 24 November 2024. Explore the growing list of pavilion announcements with our go-to list.
