The indomitable Norton duo split up in 2000, but this personal change has not subdued their immensely important role in the American art world, especially on the West Coast. Los Angeles-based contemporary art collector Eileen Harris Norton is cofounder of the Peter Norton Family Foundation, and gives major grants to institutions throughout the country. The foundation was established in 1989 with Peter Norton, retired computer software entrepreneur and president of the foundation. He sits on the boards of The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Creative Capital and is chairman of the board of directors at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York. Harris Norton is a member of the board of directors of the Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center at UCLA, and individually and through the foundation, has supported some of the most critically acclaimed exhibitions in Los Angeles and also New York.
