Two years ago Isabelle Graw gave a lecture entitled ‘Long Live Criticism!’, as if we were in any doubt of her enthusiasm and commitment. The Berlin-based magazine Texte zur Kunst, edited and cofounded (in 1990) by Graw, has continually nailed its colours to the mast of serious, often philosophically grounded criticism, enthusiastically supported by artists’ editions. With an increasing number of English-language and online articles, the magazine is gaining ground as a serious publication of choice for aspiring academics and curators. Graw, alongside Daniel Birnbaum, set up the Institut für Kunstkritik at the Städelschule, and recently began publishing a series of considered books based on the lectures given there.
