He may have held two shows for Antony Gormley this year (at the London and Seoul galleries) and seen roster stalwarts Gilbert & George take over the Hayward Gallery in the British capital, but the boss of White Cube and former YBA impresario has long established the gallery as a global brand. Its Paris space debuted Enrico David’s first show with the gallery, and the two-year-old New York outpost hosted Etel Adnan as a highlight; but it’s clear that Asia is where Jopling is now focused, with the Hong Kong gallery showing Isamu Noguchi and Seoul hosting Zhou Li. Jopling also brought Beijing-based Shao Fan and her disconcerting ethereal paintings into the fold, as well as the expressionistic Japanese painter Yoko Matsumoto. Veteran gunpowder artist Cai Guo-Qiang had a show at White Cube Bermondsey, while the gallery continues to explore the work of emerging generations of artists from Indonesia.
