This year has been something of a farewell tour for Art Basel Director Sam Keller. Having run what has become easily the most important fair in the art calendar since 2000 (and worked for Art Basel since 1994) and overseen the development of its party-fuelled sister act at Miami Beach, Keller moves on to run the Fondation Beyeler in Basel after December’s instalment of the US extravaganza. Stepping into his shoes will be a three-person team consisting of Cay Sophie Rabinowitz (previously senior editor of Swiss art magazine Parkett), Annette Schönholzer (show director of Art Basel Miami Beach since its inauguration in 2002) and Marc Spiegler (a freelance art journalist). Rabinowitz will become Artistic Director, Schönholzer will be in charge of organisation and finances, and Spiegler will be responsible for strategy and development. All of which sees Art Basel facing something of a transitional moment.
