The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Manila, has appointed Carlos Quijon Jr as chief curator of its contemporary art museum. The centre, which has been under renovation since 2021, is scheduled to reopen next year.

Quijon is an art historian, curator and critic based between Manila and New York. For the past two years he has been the inaugural C-MAP (Contemporary and Modern Art Perspectives) research fellow for Southeast and East Asia at MoMA, New York. Prior to this, he has curated numerous exhibitions internationally, including a solo exhibition of Lesley-Anne Cao at A+ Works of Art, Kuala Lumpur; Echoes and Mirages, exploring the relationship between artistic practices and histories across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, at Almeida & Dale, São Paulo; and the Philippine Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale.

‘I believe in CCP’s role in advocating for and enriching the artistic sensibilities of our Filipino artists and promoting them to our local public and our international audiences,’ Quijon said in a statement. ‘The goal is to strengthen the place of the CCP in national and regional conversations around contemporary art.’
