The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland has appointed Daniel Muzyczuk as director of the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, following a unanimous recommendation by the selection committee. Muzyczuk has been acting director of the museum since July 2024, when he took over from the painter Andrzej Biernacki.
From 2008 to 2011, Muzyczuk was a curator at the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Toruń before joining the Muzeum Sztuki where he became chief curator in 2015. He has worked on numerous curatorial projects including The Museum of Rhythm (with Natasha Ginwala, 2016), Notes from the Underground: Eastern European Alternative Art and Music Scene 1968–1994 (with David Crowley, 2016) and the Polish pavilion of the 55th Venice Biennale (with Agnieszka Pindera, 2013). He is a member of the artist and curator collective The Budapest Group.
As director, Muzyczuk has stated aims to reaffirm the Muzeum Sztuki’s role as a space to generate knowledge and foster inclusive public discourse. He also plans on expanding the building to create new spaces for storage and exhibitions.
