FIAC cancels 2020 edition due to COVID-19 crisis

The fair was scheduled to be held at the Grand Palais in Paris from 22 to 25 October

FIAC (Foire International d’Art Contemporain) has announced that it is cancelling its 2020 edition, slated to be held at the Grand Palais in Paris from 22 to 25 October. Exhibitors will be reimbursed 100 percent of the sums already paid.

In a statement, organisers said: ‘Despite its deep determination to organize FIAC – this unique rendez-vous bringing together specialists in the field of modern and contemporary art – in 2020, and its efforts to overcome the difficulties caused by the health crisis, the fair is not in a position to organize an event that meets the legitimate expectations of its exhibitors.’

Dates have been announced for FIAC’s 2021 edition, running from 21 to 24 October at the Grand Palais Éphémère on the Champ-de-Mars. The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered the cancellation of many largecale events across the artworld calendar, including Frieze’s editions in New York and London, and Art Basel in Hong Kong, Basel and Miami Beach. Others have attempted to adapt to restrictions, with Art Paris forging ahead with a socially-distanced edition last weekend.
