Antonia Ruder will take the reins of Gallery Weekend Berlin, replacing Maike Cruse who departed for a position at Art Basel in Basel earlier this year.
Ruder joins the gallery weekend after several years embedded in the German capital’s cultural scene as head of communications at Schaubühne Berlin. Other previous positions include curatorial supervision of the ars viva prize for young artists and consulting on visual and performing arts at Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft e.V., a nonprofit organization in Berlin.
‘I’m excited about developing new formats, especially for the season’s kick-off in September’, Ruder said in a statement. ‘The success of Gallery Weekend stands for the city’s unique gallery scene and underscores the importance of Berlin as an art market hub. I see it as my primary goal to further strengthen its role and function. I’m eagerly anticipating the preparations for next year’s anniversary edition.’
Ruder will begin work on 1 November 2023.
