Museums in Glasgow have pledged to repatriate stolen works to India. The artefacts include a ceremonial sword dating back to the 14th century and stone carvings from a Hindu temple, dating back to the 11th century.

Glasgow Life chair Bailie Annette Christie commented: ‘The agreement reached with the Government of India is another example of Glasgow’s commitment to addressing past wrongs and remaining transparent when explaining how objects arrived in the city’s museum collections.’
Glasgow museums are also set to hand over other artefacts from their collections, with approved transfers including 19 Benin bronzes to be returned to Nigeria.
