Proposals for Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth have been revealed at the National Gallery, where an exhibition of the shortlisted artists’ models will be open to the public through 4 July. This year’s proposals come from Nicole Eisenman, Samson Kambalu, Goshka Macuga, Ibrahim Mahama, Teresa Margolles and Paloma Varga Weisz.

Alongside the exhibition, the Mayor of London’s Fourth Plinth Commission is also inviting the public to engage with the proposed artworks online, via a partnership with Google Arts & Culture – to give opinions and feedback that will help inform the judging panel’s decision on the two winning sculptures. Audiences are encouraged to visit g.co/fourthplinth to learn more about the current proposals and the history of the Fourth Plinth Commission. The winning proposals, which will be announced in June, will be installed on the Fourth Plinth in 2022 and 2024 respectively. Heather Phillipson’s current sculpture, THE END will be on display until September 2022.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said in a statement: ‘These proposals from our most international line-up of artists to date shows yet again why the Fourth Plinth is the world’s most high-profile public art prize. As we emerge from lockdown, I’m encouraging Londoners and visitors to come back to the city through my Let’s Do London campaign, so do come and see this great exhibition at the National Gallery.’
