Johanna Agerman Ross has been appointed chief curator of the Design Museum in London. She takes over from writer Justin McGuirk, who will remain at the museum to head up its Future Observatory programme for design research supporting the UK’s response to the climate crisis, which was launched in 2021.

Agerman Ross will leave her current post as curator of twentieth century and contemporary furniture alongside product design at the V&A museum in London. Born in Sweden, Agerman Ross is the founder of the quarterly design journal Disegno, which she continues to oversee as its director. She has also previously edited the architecture and design magazine Icon.

Agerman Ross will begin the role in September.
