London gallery The Bomb Factory Art Foundation has closed an exhibition early following a series of attacks.
The exhibition, Window Wonderland, addressed freedom of expression and featured work by Be Andr, Alison Jackson, Peter Kennard, Daniel Lismore, Fa Razavi, Olga Szynkarczuk, Wankers of The World and Phill Wilson-Perkin. The work on show made reference to gay rights, motherhood, women in Iran and the Israeli attacks on Gaza.
After three nights of attacks – which saw the Marylebone gallery’s windows smashed with a pickaxe, graffitied slogans daubed including ‘Free the UK’ and Union Jack stickers attached to the glass – gallery directors closed the show on 9 January, ten days early. In a statement Pallas Citroen described it as a ‘difficult decision’ made ‘to prioritise the safety of our staff, artists and local community.’
Citreon said the exhibition ‘sought to reflect the multiplicity of voices at the heart of The Bomb Factory, encouraging open and critical dialogue through artistic practice. While we are deeply disappointed by what has happened, the incident also underlines the relevance and urgency of the work being presented.’
