Michael J. Anderson has been appointed director of the newly-expanded Portland Art Museum (PAM). He will start his new position on 12 October.
Anderson joins PAM from the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) where he has worked since 2014, first as film curator and director of curatorial before becoming president and CEO in 2019. At OKCMOA, he expanded the museum’s film programme, curated more than 16 exhibitions, and led a reinterpretation of the museum’s permanent collection, focusing on access geared towards better serving Oklahoma City’s Spanish-speaking communities.
‘We sought a Director who would build on the exciting possibilities created by the Museum’s transformation,’ said Alix Meier Goodman, co-chair of the search committee. ‘Michael is a thoughtful, disciplined leader who can leverage the Museum’s existing strengths to expand its public impact and help animate every aspect of the program and campus.’
