The Centre Pompidou is expanding, opening a series of temporary branches in various cities across France for 4-year periods, the Art Newspaper reports. The Paris museum will soon be launching an open call for city candidates, with Libourne, in southwestern France, already having proposed to house the Pompidou branch in a former military base. The €5.8m renovation budget would be financed on a regional level.
After opening its first permanent branch in Metz, France, in 2010, the Centre Pompidou continued expanding through the launch of a mobile museum in 2011, which toured six cities in France before the project was halted for financial reasons. Its first temporary outpost, however, will be in southern Spain, in Málaga, and is scheduled to open at the end of March 2015.
