Hiroshi Murayami, the editor of Japanese manga comic Oishinbo (Gourmets), which focuses on food and cooking, has defended a recent storyline which caused consternation by depicting a character having a nosebleed after visiting the damaged nuclear plant at Fukushima, the Japan Times reports. Murayami said that it was a well-meaning attempt to highlight the fact that parts of Fukushima were dangerous, and that people were reluctant to complain themselves.
Negative reactions against the story claimed that it would unnecessarily damage the reputation of people and products from the region.
