Berlin based curator and writer Anselm Franke will be the chief curator for the 10th Shanghai Biennale, China’s longest running biennale, which opens on 22 November 2014. Franke will work with a team of collaborators, as yet to be announced.

Franke, who is currently Head of Visual Arts at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt/ House of World Cultures in Berlin, has said that the Biennale will engage with subjective experience and its relation to historical and collective processes and will aim to “contrast subjective experience with the logic of modernisation, its rationalisations and standardisations, as well as the technological mediation of subjectivity”.

In 2012, Franke curated the Taipei Biennial, Modern Monsters / Death and Life of Fiction. From 2006–2010 Franke was artistic director of Antwerp’s Extra City Kunsthal.
