British artist Abigail Reynolds has been announced as the winners of the third BMW Art Journey prize, for her proposed project The Ruins of Time: Lost Libraries of the Silk Road. Reynolds was selected from a shortlist of three artists, whose work were presented in the Discoveries sector at this year’s Art Basel Hong Kong.

For her project, Reynolds will travel throughout Europe and Asia on the trajectory of the ancient Silk Road, to trace sixteen sites of libraries lost to political conflicts, looters, natural catastrophes, and war. Talking about her project, the artist explained her project will come to question ‘what we understand as knowledge’, not embarking on ‘a history lesson, but on a philosophical journey.’
