Elmgreen and Dragset’s Prada Marfa storefront installation, erected in 2005 on private land in Valentine, Texas has been branded illegal advertising by the Texas State Department, The Guardian has reported.
The work came under scrutiny this summer after Playboy installed a 40-foot neon bunny along the same stretch of highway, prompting claims that both were displaying recognisable brand logos, and under federal law would require permits to be displayed on a public highway. The state has ordered the bunny to be removed but has not yet determined whether to take similar action against the Prada Marfa.
