Representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in eastern Ukraine have blown up an installation by the Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou, the Art Newspaper reports. The work, titled Make Up…Peace!, was part of the exhibition Where is Time?, coorganised in 2012 with Galleria Continua and took the form of a giant lipstick, installed on a chimney stack in the grounds of Izolyatsia, a contemporary arts centre set up in a former Soviet-era insulation factory.

The factory has been occupied by the separatists since 2014. The work was intended as an homage to the women of Donetsk, who rebuilt the city after WWII.

26 June 2015.
