left to right Hito Steyerl, Simon Denny and J.J. Charlesworth

Join us at the Digital Art Mile in Basel on Friday 20 June for a panel discussion with Hito Steyerl, Simon Denny and J.J. Charlesworth, considering Creative Authorship in the era of Generative AI.

The rise of generative AI has blurred the lines between human and machine creativity. This panel explores the evolving concept of authorship in AI-generated works, ethical concerns around attribution, and how creatives can navigate this shifting landscape while retaining artistic agency.

Hito Steyerl is an artist, filmmaker and writer from Germany. A key figure of the post-internet generation, Steyerl’s practice currently works closely with artificial intelligence and machine-learning technology, while her books include Medium Hot: Images in the Age of Heat (2025) and Duty Free Art: Art in the Age of Planetary Civil War (2017). Simon Denny is an artist from Auckland, New Zealand, whose practice takes new technologies – including NFTs and the metaverse – as a prism through which to view contemporary life. He is a professor at the HFBK (University of Fine Arts) Hamburg. J.J. Charlesworth is an art critic and editor at ArtReview.

Where: Kino Camera, Rebgasse 1, 4058 Basel, Switzerland
