MACAN, Indonesia’s first world-class museum dedicated to international modern and contemporary art, has announced today that Venus Lau is its new director. Lau comes to MACAN from Shanghai, where she worked as an independent writer and curator, and was the art strategic advisor for Modern (Meta) Media Group. She was also the artistic director at K11 Art Foundation, artistic director of OCT Contemporary Art Terminal in Shenzhen, and curator at Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing. She is also a widely published art writer who is a cofounder of LEAP magazine.

We believe that Venus will inspire both our museum team and audiences with her ideas, enhancing MACAN’s stalwart reputation as a key art institution in Southeast Asia.’ Lau took on the new position on 1 February 2024.
