Korean artist Jang Min-Seung was announced winner of the 2014 Hermès Foundation Missulsang, among two other finalists including graphic designers duo Sulki & MinJang, as well as artist Yeo Daham. Launched by the Hermès Foundation in 2008, the prize is awarded annually to an emerging artist of the contemporary Korean art scene, and is coupled with an exhibition of the works by the finalists at the Atelier Hermès, located at Maison Hermès Dosan Park.
Jang Min-Seung, 35, presented two video pieces, Snow We Saw (2014) and Pitch-dark (2014), which reflect the artist’s shock and agony after the April 16 Sewol ferry tragedy, resulting in the death of 300 people. Jang studied at Chungang University in Seoul; recent solo and group exhibitions include Hidden Track, Space Willing N Dealing, Seoul (2014), The Moments, ONE AND J. GALLERY, Seoul (2012), Encounter, Experience, and Environment, Gilman Barracks, Singapore (2012) and Seoul City Exploration, Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul (2011).
