The Bourse de Commerce, the art centre in the former Paris stock exchange established by the fashion tycoon and owner of Christie’s auction house, has been pulling in crowds since 2021. Not that it presents populist fare for your average Emily in Paris-inspired weekend-breaker: the year opened with Ali Cherri’s sculptural meditations on Lebanon’s fraught history and two films by Arthur Jafa, both satellite shows to a collection hang of roughly 100 works dealing with the body (picked from Pinault’s 10,000-strong holdings). ‘His taste is at the core of what they do,’ said Dia Art Foundation’s Jessica Morgan of Pinault and his foundation. She was speaking from the perspective of having curated a sprawling show dedicated to global minimalism at the Bourse. Pinault’s Palazzo Grassi, one of two venues in Venice, hosted a solo show of installation artist Tatiana Trouvé, while the second space was given to German sculptor Thomas Schütte. Pinault’s artist residency in Lens was enjoyed this year by Iranian painters Tirdad Harshem and Soufia Erfanian, and is now hosting Saudi video and digital artist Anhar Salem.
