The two school chums – both attended Oxford and went on to work together at the ICA London – have had a publicity-garnering year with Artangel, the curatorial nonprofit they codirect. A Room for London, a boat perched at the very edge of the Queen Elizabeth Hall roof in London, designed by David Kohn Architects in collaboration with the artist Fiona Banner, has hosted an expansive, high-profile programme of artists, musicians and writers (including Jeremy Deller, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson and Jarvis Cocker) performing in the diminutive space.

Then there is Mobile Homestead, which turned out to be one of Mike Kelley’s last projects. Unfinished at the time of the artist’s death, in January, the recreation of Kelley’s childhood home – fixed up on wheels – is currently being completed and will be unveiled next year. Elsewhere there were projects by Lindsay Seers and Mark Storor, making it an average (meaning busy) 12 months for Artangel. Oh, and Lingwood and Morris got MBEs too.
