Artists for 2023 Sharjah Biennial revealed

The artists who will show at the fifteenth Sharjah Biennial have been announced. The exhibition Thinking Historically in the Present was conceived by Okwui Enwezor before the curator’s death in 2019 and has been implemented by the Sharjah Foundation’s director Hoor Al Qasimi.

The work of the 140 artists will be shown in venues across the emirate including a vegetable market, a power station and a former nursery school.

The Biennial has commissioned new work from participating artists including John Akomfrah, Sammy Baloji, Coco Fusco, Steve McQueen, Philippe Parreno, Doris Salcedo, Carrie Mae Weems.

The biennial runs 7 February through 11 June 2023.
