A board member has resigned in protest

Curatorial collective What, How & for Whom have been forced from the helm of Kunsthalle Wien. Austrian paper Der Standard reported that the curators – comprised of Ivet Ćurlin, Nataša Ilić, Sabina Sabolović and Ana Dević – had been ousted as directors.

According to the daily, the municipal government put out an open call for submissions for the role of director, but all the applicants, including WHW, did not meet the criteria, A new open call has been issued. 

A board member, Boris Marte, has resigned in protest at the decision to deselect WHW, telling Der Standard that it violated his sense of ethics and claimed that it was not put properly to the supervisory board.

The Croatia-based collective was formed in 2000 and prior to their arrival in Vienna, headed up Galerija Nova in Zagreb. They took over the Kunsthalle Wien directorship in 2019 following the departure of Nicolaus Schafhausen.
