The second edition of the Bogota Biennial, which will take place across the Colombian capital in September 2027, will be led by the biennial’s director Juan Ricardo Rincón Gaviria and chief curators Magalí Arriola and José Esparza Chong Cuy. Additional support will come from curators María Paula Bastidas, Juliana Steiner and Elkin Rubiano.
A Mexico-based curator and writer, Magalí Arriola was previously director of Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, and curator of the Mexican Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale.
José Esparza Chong Cuy is a curator and architect from Mexico. He is currently executive director and chief curator of Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York. This year, he served as curator of the Kosovo Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
The 2027 Bogota Biennial will explore the ecosystem of the city, exploring relationships between natural and built environments, and between human and more-than-human life. Alongside the exhibition programming, the Biennial will award $300,000 across 51 grants to local artists, independent cultural practices and institutions.
