Jeamin Cha wins Hermès Foundation Missulsang

Korean media artist Jeamin Cha has won the 21st Missulsang, the Hermès Foundation has announced. Cha will receive an award of KRW 30 million (appox. GBP 15,100) as well as support toward the production of a solo exhibition at the Atelier Hermès in Seoul, slated to open in May 2027.

Cha works across film, performance, installation and writing that are informed by extensive field research. Her documentary work often revolves around people at the margins of society, paying attention to the lives of those who have experienced physical or psychological trauma.

Established in 2000, the biannual prize supports emerging artists in South Korea. Recent laureates include Kim Heecheon, Jun Sojung and Jeong Geumhyung.

Cha was selected by an international jury of five, comprising Hye-kyung Ki (former director of the Busan Museum of Art), Binna Choi (artistic director of Korea’s 2026 Venice pavilion), artist Seo-young Jung, Isabella Bertolotti (director of Museum of Contemporary Art, Lyon) and Reiko Setsuda (director of Le Forum at Maison Hermès Ginza, Tokyo).
